The leaves of this perennial erect shrub are loaded with aromatic essential oil.

Owing to the strong aroma and astringent taste, in Ayurveda, Rama Tulsi Plant is regarded as a kind of "elixir of life", and promotes longevity. 

The plant blooms elongated violet flowers, scented glossy green leaves, and the stems usually green with a tinge of purple, at times. Tulsi is considered a crucial plant that has been used in Ayurveda for decades for its diverse healing properties. These plants reach a maximum height of 2 feet and don’t require much maintenance and care to thrive.

Ornamental Use

  • This plant is also used for ornamental purposes.

Medicinal Use

  • It also enhances digestive powers, increases memory power, and prevents bacterial growth.
  • Tulsi also has healing properties for curing cancer, kidney stones, quitting smoking, reducing blood sugar, and keeping healthy skin and hair.
  • Tulsi is an adaptogen- helping to balance different processes in the body and also helpful for reducing stress

Culinary Use

  • The leaves of the tree are infused for tea.
  • It is used for flavoring in salads and stirfries.
  • Holy basil is also taken as herbal tea, fresh leaf, dried powder. 

Planting and Care

  • Holy Basil needs indirect sunlight to grow and cannot survive strong intense heat. Keep this plant in a spot where the sunlight is beating down. 
  • Water the plants weekly and make sure to keep the water off the leaves.
  • Water the plant from the base and don’t overwater.
  • Water stagnation must be avoided in all cases.
  • If the tree is bigger, make sure to dig a larger hole.
  • Make sure the roots of the plant are damp but not too wet.
  • Water the soil immediately after using the fertilizer.
  • Knock off the old soil from the plant root by removing all rotted and dead roots.
  • While repotting, it’s preferable to do it during the evening and keep the plant in a shady area for a min 2-3 days before moving it to the ideal location and climate. 
  • In case of insect or pest attack, use Eucalyptus oil, Neem oil, or Citrus oil spray for the primary treatment.
